his dimples
small caves of happiness
opening up to his soul
inviting careful onlookers

his long lashes
curtains to his eyes
highlighting his smiles
shadowing his thoughts

in the absence of all else
only these two remain
he’s gone, but still l try to figure out
where his dimples and lashes went

Writer's Eye

I am your lined notebook
I am the space between the lines in your notebook
I am the tip of your sharpened pencil
I am where the tip meets the paper

I am unwritten poems and untold tales
I hide between your brain’s synapses
I listen to your half-formed thoughts,
I lie in wait for your story to unfold

I am possibility and its absence --
I am you.

War

The earth drank greedily
the blood of the dead
as the sun started bleeding
into the sky.

War was everywhere –
between the corpses
and the speechless trees,
in the cold silence
broken by the whimpering wind.

The world became
a still-life picture,
where no one moved
and no one won.
